The track dates from 1979 but appears on the album published in 1984, entitled "Ignoble Limace" (Revolting Slug) by Ayaa Label and reissued by Replica a couple of years ago. An avant-gardist, off the wall, a tad comical track by the so called French Residents, Les Résidents Français. The rest of the album is just as delightful.
French mid 80's band that released this unique self produced and privately pressed LP in the mid 80's. Deep jazz blended w/ minimal music, African, Eastern, Indonesian (gamelan), Indian ... influences. Great percussions works. Beautiful atmospheres. Sounds also like modern Ballet compositions. Great cinematic sound, Very recommended album to be enjoyed FROM START TO FINISH. One of the finest music in the genre. This album should please people into Spiritual Jazz, Minimal music (Steve Reich in particular), Field Recordings ...
James Brown's fans should listen carefully... Ants in your pants? Something I can imagine. Don't know about Granny Scratch Scratch? That's THE one you must have in your collection. Originally appearing on the Studio One Dub Specialist's "Roots Dub" (original LP hard to find and quite expensive now), they fortunately pressed it as a single. JUST FOR YOU AND ME !

This album was recorded in Miami, 1982. Ronnie Canada was the lead vocal in the group of musicians called The Blue Notes (from Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes group). A 12 and a 7 inch of Never Stop Loving You were published before the LP, by SURVIVOR label, with a comment stating "From the LP - CAVIAR SULP-0031. Everyone started searching for the LP...but the producer got killed in a car crash a couple of days after the recording and the master remained in the damaged car... The producer's widow never worried about the master which was never found out. In 2012, Ronnie Canada met the sound engineer who was working at the recording studio at that time. They chatted for a while when the guy mentioned to Ronnie that he used to always keep a copy of the recordings... this is how, by sheer luck, Ronnie managed to get a copy of the original master. I still have this vivid memory of Ronnie calling me when I was in Italy for some vacation, in July 2012, and telling me "Phil, you're not gonna believe it! I just fished out the master of CAVIAR's album !!!" This was the year when I published the album, a first time, under my label BOOGIE TIMES in 300 copies only, sold in 3 days. In 2016, I produced it again under my other label SAPH RECORDS. This album is a pure SOUL-FUNK gem, a music genre much appreciated in Europe.
Some real, soft, hard and crazy rock by Charles Edward Anderson Berry, aka " Crazy Legs ", eternal and unforgettable founding father of the biggest classics of rock'n'roll on the planet. Idolized, copied since half a century by every generation of artists, never equalled. His music, insolent and nutty, subjugates the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, the Sex Pistols, Motorhead, AC/DC... and the list is not finished yet. As soon as 1955, his music is like a tsunami; the conforming and right-thinking America braces itself to the highest point. Indeed, the Duckwalker's songs encourage the youth to run away from school when he spends the majority of his time trying to get away from law court. Without extraordinary technical skills, Berry shows a unique talent for playing the guitar. He makes the difference with a clear and stimulating swing. "He is the meaning of the roll part in the RockandRoll term. Something that bounces." quotes Keith Richards... Eternal star in the firmament of rock, Rest In Paradise Mr. Chuck...
This track is from the legendary album by The Cure, their forth album, published in 1982 and entitled Pornography.
This album is regarded as one of the darkest by the group. For that matter, the title ‘Cold' perfectly describes the ambience released by the LP.
It may be less easy to access but all the more interesting. I haven't got a full knowledge of this group, yet fundamental beyond its cult titles. To be honest, I discovered this track (which is not one of their hits) only recently, quite by accident. I got literally captivated by the atmosphere that was transmitted. Now I think it became one of my favourite titles.
Fleur de Mai - I like the cover of this Jazz Des Jeunes release with the Bicentenaire Fontaine Lumineuse in Port-au-Prince. It fits to the smooth big band sound with beautiful melodies and old rhythms. The orchestra was founded on the 1st of august 1943. They started as Trio des Jeunes, Quinteto des Jeunes, Septeto des Jeunes and became Super Jazz des Jeunes and Immortel Jazz des Jeunes. There is a relation between early jazz music and the term jazz. Modern music, the meaning of Jazz became soon music group in Kreyòl "djaz la" (Compas band). The orchestra was playing traditional haitian rhythms (Meringue, Petro, Congo, Ibo etc.) in a big band setting. In the Meringue "Rabordage" songs you find the pattern the hip hop youth uses today in popular electronic dance music "Rabòday". Jazz des Jeunes was known as folkloric music, they never played compas. After some years of break the band still exists in the capital.
A track signed by Elton Dean on the album Pip Pyle's Equipe Out. 1985 – label 52° rue Est (label from Montpellier). From this so called Canterbury school group, only the two French artists Sophia Domancich and Didier Malherbe are still active. The three British artists, who were friends, are gone...
Betino's Recordsproudly presents its third release: an EP by the very sharp collective The Big Hustle. The band founded in 2014 by bass player and composer Sébastien Levanneur, brings together 70's old school funk with the hippest actual sound with influences spanning from Steely Dan to Snarky Puppy, from Mandrill to Lettuce and from Herbie Hancock (Manchild era) to Soulive. With mighty horn players, a rock and funky rhythm section, and percussions added to it, The Big Hustle's music has a very large variety of sound landscapes. Still, the music never loses the groove and always stays close to the funk.
The A side opens with "Afrorever", a tribute to African culture and music. The guest of honor on this song is legendary Malian musicianCheick Tidiane Seck, longtime partner of Salif Keita, and collaborator of Joe Zawinul, Carlos Santana and Damon Albarn to name a few. After Cheick's introduction, the songs jumps into a typical afrobeat vibe featuring a tight and powerful horn section, suddenly breaks into an electro funk groove and ends in a furious percussive party.
Second track on the A side is "Faure is the Magic Number". It is dedicated to Thomas Faure (co-composer of the track) and François Faure (both featured on this song on tenor sax and keyboards respectively). This piece displays the band's ability to blend jazz-funk groove with a heavy hip-hop beat. Kind of DJ Premier meets Steely Dan.
The B side starts with "Afrorever (Sun's Up Mix)". Through this mix, one can acknowledge instantlyOlivier Portal's touch. From the very first chords, he conveys us into his realm blending warm and melancholy keyboards with an old school deep-house rhythm pattern.
The fourth track is called "1, 2, 1, 2". It is a purely improvised moment in the studio while the band was sound checking before recording with special guest rapperRaashan Ahmad. Nicolas Gueguen had the good idea to press the R button and what you hear is basically what happened afterwards.
La Vie En Rose VOGUE reference # 31104. A promising title, limited edition published in 1983 by the group MARTINIQUE. I listened to it and... like for almost all songs that exist, I was delighted, what a nice way to forget one's worries during 4 minutes!!! Side B: Cajun Reggae instrumental... Hard not to lose oneself in listening to this 4 minute reggae rhythm, what happiness!
Recorded at ''La Comédie Des Champs-Elysées'' by J.-P. Pellissier and Fabrice Gabrielli with Maurice Ferret and Joseph Pouville playing the guitars, Sauveur playing the contrabass and Stéphane Gremaud playing the drums. Popular melodies revisited in the style of the 70s with equal charm as the beauty queen who was photographed by Mr Laguens (RIP). Exclusively on CD&LP, yeah !!
